Anson is 9 months old!

Anson turned 9 months old 2 days ago, so I figured it was time for an update on him...

He is doing pretty well, despite his recent illness. He had a bad cold that turned into croup. Poor little guy. But his belly seems to be doing a lot better now that he is on formula. He is way less gassy and just more comfortable. We will see how much better his sleep gets once he is feeling all better, but so far there have been some promising nights. He is still eating once per night (between 6PM and 7AM), which I think is pretty unnecessary now that he is on formula, but of course he is used to that pattern, so we'll have to work on that! His naps are still short (he takes 3 40 minute naps most days, though if I lay with him he will sleep longer) but I am starting to think that is mainly because he sleeps so much at night.

As far as new skills, he is SO SO close to crawling. He rolls everywhere and will also sort of shoot himself forward with his toes sometimes. He has actually been pulling up onto furniture (and me) and is able to stay standing on his own for a little bit. He especially loves to do that at Grady's train table and then play with the trains! He waves like crazy too. He is also doing the flaps on lift-the-flap books, which is fun. He seems to have forgotten how to clap for the time being, though he tries all the time. He just closes one hand in a fist and claps it with the other hand.

Food is going well - he will eat anything. Just tonight he ate chunks of steamed carrots like they were candy. He has a 6-8 ounce bottle now 6 times per day, which is a LOT.

His favorite toys are his simple ring stacker, his little kitchen, his Very Hungry Caterpillar toy apple, and Sophie the Giraffe (to chew on). He also loves his Glow Worm.

As far as teeth he has the bottm 2, the top 2, and at least one more tooth on top. There may even be 2 more up there - those are coming in RIGHT NOW.

He weighs about 19 pounds, but he was a bit more than that. He definitely lost a little weight with the recent illness. He is also long - I can just tell from how his clothes fit. He fits well in 6-12 month stuff, though he is starting to outgrow the jammies.

He "talks" a lot - mostly "dada"and "gaga". Still waiting on "mama" :)

So that's about it. He's a happy little guy and lots of fun right now!

April in February

We have had a beautiful February. The weather most days has been quite warm and sunny with lots of days in the 60s and even 70s. Because of all of this great weather Grady has been getting out on his bike a lot. He has been able to ride it for a while now, but he is really just now starting to love it and want to ride all the time. This afternoon we enjoyed another warm and sunny day and headed to the park where Grady rode all over the trails. It was just Grady and Mama, and we had so much fun!

Anson, on the other hand, has not been feeling very well. He's had a bad cold and fever too. Poor guy - his belly finally feels better and now he is sick. Oh, and a fourth tooth popped through amidst all of this! He is still doing new things all the time though - just today he seemed to really start saying "Dada" and mean it. That boy does love his Dada!

Here are a few pictures (and some very funny videos) to give you a little taste of what we have been up to.

Anson doing his favorite thing - eating... He is now really good at feeding himself and prefers to eat "chunks" (or Cheerios - his fave) over purees. I am pretty sure that I could put almost anything in front of Anson and he would eat it, provided it was cut into little chunks. We are also working on a sippy cup, though he has not really gotten the hang of it yet.

I also have to mention that Grady has been a much better and more adventurous eater lately. Here he is enjoying my homemade alphabet tomato soup.

More Milestones!

So both boys have been doing some fun and exciting new things lately!

Anson has recently started waving! It is so cute, as he often looks like he is waving to himself by the way he turns his hand. But when a new person walks up to him, he usually waves, sometimes even before they do. He also often says something that sounds like "heeey" along with it. So yesterday we were playing with his kitchen toy, and there is a certain part that when you move it it says "hi". Every time we did it he would wave at the toy and say "heeey".

He also got his third tooth yesterday! The top left one is in. It was a painful process but at least that one is behind him!

And the last bit of news is that Anson is almost entirely formula fed now. He is doing very well with the bottles and seems to be doing better with the formula than he did while nursing (seems to have less gas). At first I didn't think so, but I didn't realize he had teeth coming through like crazy. Now he seems to be doing better, and I realized that was what the fussiness was about. Let's hope he continues to improve!

Grady has just been lots of fun lately - he is WAY into space and has been getting books from the library about space and learning all about it. He is especially into black holes and now knows (and seems to truly understand) the science behind them. He can explain the whole thing to you if you ask! He knows all of the planets and even some facts about them. He also loves pirates now and has even been running around with an eye patch on at times. We have been playing lots of make-believe pirate games.

And one really funny thing Grady has been saying a lot... "I'm assuming" as in "I am assuming you aren't going to let me have ice cream before dinner?"

So that's it - pictures to come but I just wanted to update on some of our excitement around here!

CLAP! CLAP! CLAP!

I took Anson to Babies R Us today while Eric and Grady are at the circus. While we were there, there was a baby crawling race going on. Anson doesn't crawl yet, but I thought he might roll across the finish line, so I put him down to see what would happen. It was so cute because all of these babies were crawling all over and Anson just sat there smiling, waving, and then CLAPPING! He has never clapped before, so I was quite surprised! I joked that he was just cheering on the other babies :) I can't believe he is clapping at 8 months!
