Camping at the Beach - Part 3

The next morning was Father's Day.  It was absolutely beautiful, and we decided to spend the whole day at the beach!  This was our ride onto Isle of Palms

We got set up in a great spot

Cool dude

We did LOTS of digging

On the way back to the camper that afternoon, this happened very quickly

We went out for a fun dinner that evening, at Shem Creek

Checking out the boats while we waited for our food

The next morning we did the nature trail before packing up the camper

We saw a snake, but no gators.  There were also some huge spiders.  Quite an adventure!

It was a really fun camping trip!  We are just loving our camper!

Camping at the Beach - Part 2

Our first full day, we headed over to Isle of Palms.  It was a short 10 minute drive and we were on the beach!

They loved the sand but they also loved the water and spent most of the day splashing in the waves

We stopped at a famous hot dog place for lunch and Anson wanted to sit on the vintage car ride

That afternoon we went for an ill fated round of mini golf.  But Camille sure does look cute next to the sign!

That night everyone was in a much better mood for a fun dinner at Mellow Mushroom.  There was even live music, which the kids enjoyed.

Camping at the beach - part 1

Father's Day weekend we took a camping trip to the Charleston area.  We stayed on Mount Pleasant, which is very close to the beautiful beaches of Isle of Palms.  It was our first experience at a KOA, and we were impressed.  There was a lake, a nice pool, a playground, and a great nature trail that wound through the grounds of an old plantation.  We had nice hot, sunny weather, so we spent much of our time at the beach, but we also explored the campground quite a bit.

It was a quick, easy ride, and the kids were very good

After getting our camper hooked up (we are getting quite good at this) we headed to the pool

They never wanted to get out, but we finally pried them out of there long enough to do peddle boats on the lake!

Eric and Anson

Mama and Grady

Camille

That evening we grilled our dinner and then made s'mores, of course!

A great ending to our first day!

A Weekend at the Farm

A few weekends ago there was an Upstate Farm Tour.  Over 30 local farms participated and for $10 per carload, you could tour as many farms as you could fit into the weekend.  We have been wanting to do this for several years, but this is the first year we were able to make it happen.  My kids LOVE the farm so this was perfect.  They had so much fun!

The first farm raises chickens, pigs, and turkeys and supplies them to several local restaurants.

Checking out the babies in the incubators!

Piggies!

The second farm was gorgeous and also had turkeys and chickens

They have weddings at the place - it's incredible.  It's been in the family for 180 years

We got the take an awesome hay ride around the gorgeous property, which is also the location for a charity polo event that takes place in the fall.  And it is actually quite close to our house!

The next day we started at a vineyard.  But they also had goats, which the kids loved.  Unfortunately it was Sunday so we couldn't taste any wine.

Finally we visited a hydroponic farm, which also produces their own honey and grits (we bought some of each)

What a great weekend learning more about some of the many amazing farms that are local to this area!
