A Day (or two) at the Farm

Yesterday I took Grady to a special "Day at the Farm" at the Roper Mountain Science Center. They have a big farm behind the science center, and he loves it whenever we go. So it was really cool to just spend some special time there and do some fun activities. This week's theme was ladybugs, so we got to do all sorts of cool things with ladybugs! It was very hot, but still lots of fun.

First, here he is in the butterfly garden, where we met up with the teacher:

Petting the horse - there was a cow too, which he was actually more interested in

Releasing some ladybugs into their garden (since ladybugs are "good bugs" and eat the bad ones, like aphids)

None of ours wanted to fly away, so we had to pull the mint out of the bag

Finally they crawled onto Grady's hands and flew off!

We got to take a few home and release them into our own garden!

He also ate some mint from the garden - crazy boy loves super strong mint flavor (like Altoids), which always seems funny.

Then we went inside and made ladybug rings and ladybug snacks (fruit roll-up cut in circles with chocolate chips as spots)

Showing off his ring

And a little movie clip of him singing songs to make the ladybug fly away. Of course before I got the camera out he was singing this cute song he made up about ladybugs. Once I started filming he went right into "Elmo's Song".

And are a few videos that I took at the pool last weekend. We have already been back this week and are headed there again today - it's been so hot!

Grady is actually back at the farm this morning, with Eric. They were having a special farm day today (this one is just open to the public), and he was apparently going to get to name a baby chick! The teacher yesterday is the lady that basically runs the farm part of the science center. When she heard how much Grady loves chickens and how he calls them "pa-bocks" (since he was tiny - it just stuck) she promised he could name one of the new babies. He just called and told me that he did name one "Pabock" :)
